Stone carpet - Test Kit
For a coverage of 1.5m² in 8mm thickness, our kit includes:
- Masters PU UV Resin (1kg)
- Rolled marble aggregates (1 bag - 25kg)
The products in the kit
Our complete kits for stone carpets (stone carpets) are made up of high quality products for optimum and long-lasting results. Indeed, each component of these kits has an essential function in the process and it is essential to work with products adapted to this technique and the environment.
- Resin
There are several types of resins for stone carpet, of different materials and composition. A good quality of resin is essential to ensure the bond between the aggregates. If the resin is not of good quality, the aggregates will fall apart one by one with age. We strongly advise against the use of acrylic resins, which are not strong enough. Epoxy-based resins should also be avoided because they are all sensitive to UV. Which means that they will yellow when exposed to the sun. They can nevertheless be used indoors.
We recommend the use of high quality polyurethane resins such as Masters PU Resin.
For greater comfort of preparation and use, our resin is a single component which allows a longer working time (opening time), which is particularly appreciable outdoors when temperatures are high. Finally, our resin is aliphatic, which means that it is insensitive to UV, it does not yellow.
- Aggregates
Beyond the choice of color, which remains personal, the aggregates must be very resistant. They must be made of marble or granite. For stone carpet, they must have been washed and dried. This is an essential condition for optimizing their assemblies with the resin.
Although it is possible to make a stone carpet with simply crushed aggregates, we recommend choosing aggregates that are not only crushed, but also rolled. The assembly and compaction of the rolled aggregates is easier and the walking comfort (especially bare feet) is much pleasant.
Finally, we recommend a grain size of between 2.5 and 5mm to have an aesthetic and homogeneous result. It is possible to choose larger aggregates for tree surrounds, such as 5/8mm or 6/10mm.
How to
- The surfaces to be treated must be perfectly clean and dry.
- Prepare the binder and aggregate mixture at the rate of 0.8 kg of Masters PU UV Resin for 15 kg of washed and dried marble aggregates (i.e. 5%). This mixture allows you to cover 1m² by 8mm thickness. Mix everything in a new concrete mixer or in a large bucket using a professional mixer for at least two minutes.
- Apply the mixture to the floor and distribute it evenly. Use an equalization ruler or level rulers to level everything out. It is essential to compress the mixture using a manual or mechanical trowel to obtain a homogeneous whole.
